We believe that if we get the momma cow "right" everything else falls into place. People ask us about traits and epd's that we use. We don't select for the largest of this or that. We look at traits that will be the most profitable. That is almost never largest weaning or yearly weights. The most important traits in our program are: fertility, longevity, adaptability to our area and management, calving ease, adequate milk (not too much), good fleshing ability, moderate size (1000-1250#, frame 3-4), good mothering instincts, overall soundness, and a good disposition. When we get these things right our calves will finish on forage (grass) and be a great eating experience or become great mothers or sires themselves. We believe that a cow should be able to last at least 10-15 years in our program without special care.

We would like to thank all those who have mentored us and/or supplied us with genetics over the years. We have searched throughout the US and Scotland to find the kind of cattle that will thrive on forage, eat well, and are profitable in our operation. We have long believed that with the right kind of cow the vast majority of problems will be eliminated. The right cow in our operation will weigh between 1000-1250#, stay in good flesh on forage alone while raising a good healthy calf, and live into her teen years after she has long since paid for herself. Special Thanks go to: Sam Wylie, Octoraro Angus in PA Harrison O'Connor, Saddle Butte Ranch in MT Eddie Draper and Staff at The Wye Plantation in MD Tim Ohlde at Ohlde Cattle Company in KS David Freeman, Wickwire Angus in NC Mark Deboo, Diamond D Angus, MT Dr. Allen Williams, Starkville, MS John Wood, US Welllness Meats, MO Larry Melhoff, 5L Red Angus in MT Geordie & Julia Soutar, Dunlouise Angus in Scotland Kit Pharo, Pharo Cattle Co., Eastern CO and many others.
